Launched in 2019, this pop-up experience brings fine art to life, featured in playful installations that include direct replicas and abstract interpretations of the museum’s most celebrated works.

At the heart of the course is the intention to create a more interactive experience. “We wanted to present a way to experience the art in a different format,” explains Nichele Anderson, the museum's director of earned income. Each hole has been crafted by artists who selected a piece of art that inspired their design, encouraging players not just to observe, but to participate, making golf a truly dynamic encounter with creativity.
For example, the course’s eighth hole invites mini golfers into an imaginative setup derived from Evelyn Hofer’s iconic portrait, integrating a stationary bike as part of the putting experience. Players hop on to pedal through their quest, adding a layer of fun and movement. It's a thrilling twist that keeps everyone engaged and laughing as they navigate the greens!
A Seasonal Experience
The Nelson-Atkins Art Course runs through the summer, open Thursday through Monday. With tee times that are highly sought after—often requiring reservations weeks in advance—it’s a summer destination not to be missed. As you wind your way through the course with a cold drink in hand (thanks to the nearby concessions cart!), you are encouraged to tap into your inner artist and discover the creativity that lies at the intersection of golf and art.
